As you may know, GtkPod is a tool for adding audio files on iPod devices (iPod Classic, iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle, iPod Photo and iPod Mini), having a graphical user interface created in GTK+. Despite it does not provide all of the iTunes features, it is quite good as an iPod manager for Linux.

The latest version available is Gtkpod 2.1.5, which comes with the below changes:

  • IMPROVEMENT: Port to GStreamer 1.0
  • IMPROVEMENT: Upgrade sjcd plugin to use latest sound juicer code
  • IMPROVEMENT: Refactor deprecated GtkTable replacing with GtkGrid
  • BUGFIX: Fixes the setting display of the repository file settings
  • BUGFIX: Update install instructions and documentation

Installation instructions:

For Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf, up to date clementine packages are available via the default repositories, so all you need to do is update the local repo index and install the gtkpod package:

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install gtkpod

For Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17.x and Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, we need to use a third party PPA in order to install the music player, refresh the repo list and install the gtkpod package from the newly added ppa:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:anton+/photo-video-apps
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install gtkpod

Optional, to remove gtkpod, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove gtkpod
